WILD. CRAZY. INSANE!!

January 23rd, 2012

Now that I have your attention, here’s a brief update on a website which has admittedly been neglected of late. While everyone has been at the TDU, we’ve been frantically trying to prepare for 2012, to make your riding lifestyle more enjoyable. I’ll break it into segments!

Wattbike Training

The Performance Studio upstairs from Velocino has taken some steps forward, with the implementation of an Online Booking System, or ‘OBS’ – which allows customers to purchase, track and alter any session purchases, as well as earn Bonus Points for their loyalty.

The OBS will be 100% running once our EziDebit account has been verified. Who knew ‘verifying’ could take so long.

Cafe and Treats

The cafe has been getting increasingly busy on the weekend, as well as during the week – Lewis has created an atmosphere whereby people feel like they belong… and they do! A cycling central cafe is great, as it’s perfect for cyclists to swarm the place and literally take over! Something other cafes tend to dislike. Well, we love it!!!

The Bike Store

The bike store has had a few changes, all for the better. A few extra staff members have been put on for weekend shifts, to handle to influx of enthusiasts and their beloved bikes. They’re young, keen and dedicated to the world of cycling, just like you!

Social Store Rides

The store now hosts a Wednesday social ride, with the emphasis on SOCIAL – the ride has a ‘no drop’ policy and is a filtering ride for the Womens Ride on Mondays and Fridays. In other words, if you keep up on Wednesday, I pass you on to the Womens Group who tend to go a wee bit faster than our Social Ride.

Womens Ride – Monday and Friday 9:30am – email me to confirm a new attendance.

Social Ride – Wednesday 6am – varied pace depending on participants

Personal Training

Discovery Personal Training is rocking peoples socks – they’re turning frowns upside down and genuinely making a name for themselves when it comes to service, sincerity and teamwork between you and them! Give Karim a shout, if you’d like to start making changes, even if they’re little – any goal is worth achieving.

Skills Rides

Joey (me) is now readily available for PRIVATE road and MTB Skills sessions. The only way a group can be formed, is if you bring some mates along. Sessions can be held for road riding, traffic know-how, and specifically MTB riding.

Fun Stuff

Here is a link to a ride Joey did recently – it’s fun, it’s on a bike and it’s accessible to you too.

See you all on the road!

Hire Bike Rates Reduced

September 20th, 2011

Just in time for the new season our hire bike rates have reduced.

The cost of bikes have lowered a little (ask an economist!), and our hire bikes are enjoying increasing demand; so we can afford to substantially reduce our prices.

Path bikes are available from $40 per day and road bikes from $60. With reduced rates for longer term. So why not take a carbon Ultegra road bike down Beach Road? Or enjoy a weekend exploring the Bay, Yarra and garden paths?

We don’t hire old, worn bikes. All of our bikes are current or recent models and meticulously maintained in our workshop. We treat them as our own; in fact we ride them ourselves.

If you’d like a change from your regular ride you could always give the “Green Bullet” a try!

Specials and Update – June 23

June 23rd, 2011

It was a bit tricky separating the specials from the news today. So I didn’t. It’s worth the read.

Velocino Clothing Offers

Velocino Shop Clothing at 10% Off
If you’ve been tempted by the new winter shop gear then now’s your chance! We offer you 10% off a Velocino jacket, vest, or long sleeve jersey in the new colours. This offer also includes the existing kit (sold out sizes have topped up).

If you haven’t seen them yet………

Wear your Gear in the Cafe
We’re not neglecting our friends who are already enjoying the high quality Nalini manufactured Velocino clothing. If you wear yours this weekend………it’s a dollar off every coffee (chai, hot chocolate and tea included)*.  Who knows, perhaps we can talk Louis into making this a long term feature?

Before the Post TDF Rush

Fantastic Offers on Bikes and a Little Bit More
If you are the least bit interested in a bike, and you:

  • know the faithful old clunker is getting weary
  • finally convinced him or her to take up the ‘art of cycling’
  • are looking for that extra competitive edge in you group
  • wish you were a little more comfortable on that longer ride
  • would like to join the large number of riders who reap the many proven rewards
  • are a bit…fussy, and it’s getting harder to hide the well earned chips and scratches
  • you want to show your mettle by ‘displaying your new bike’ as fellow late night TV folk talk about the one they’re ‘gonna’ buy – the Tour de France starts next week!
  • or just N+1 (if you need to ask it might be time)

It is truly a fantastic time to purchase a bike from us!!

Yes, you hear this often enough. But just like Easter Eggs in the supermarkets on January 2 – next year’s models have started to arrive. And not only will you pick up a genuine bargain on a top bike. You’ll also enjoy that little extra that ‘is Velocino’.

Here’s some examples:

  • take a bike that you may be interested in buying for a ‘proper long test ride’
  • not sure, then try another one
  • want to really be sure, then hire the bike for a day or a week and we’ll deduct up to the entire cost of the hire off your purchase.***
  • need to be really, really sure it’s the right bike, then book a Comfort and Performance assessment and setup as part of the purchase.

Have a look at our Bike Specials page for a sample of the bikes on offer.

* In the interests of health – limited to 2 per customer per day.
** Current pre 2012 stock only.
*** Hire refund discount level determined at time of hire. Based on bike model, year, value, and existing discount if applicable.

Weekly Blog News Update

Off Overseas to Race
As promised, as few words from Callum just before he heads off to Europe: “[I'm] heading off to Belgium for 6 months of racing in the amateur scene with the Kingsnorth International Wheelers team run by Ian Whitehead and Staf Boone. [I] … hope to race in Holland, Germany and France as well. It will be a very exciting time and I’ll be keeping a blog (Fryer’s Flanders) to keep everyone back home up to date.” Callum.

And Blair who is now on the way to the US: “I’m heading over to the USA primarily to do the speed week criterium series, which goes from the 29th of April to 8th of May. Fast and furious racing based in the south east corner of North America. I’ll be racing for the Warp9/Krystal elite team, which are based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I’ll also be taking advantage of the strong Aussie dollar which, short of a nuclear explosion wiping out the entire country, will be at parity for the duration of my stay. I am going to love the shopping, in between rides and drinks…
